Artist Statement

My work explores nostalgia and

the domesticity of the home

through stilllife, using bright

colours, bold patterns, and

flattened perspectives. I aim

to bring everyday scenes to life,

focusing on symbols such as

tables, chairs, vases, and fruit

bowls. I try to turn simple familiar

setups into something more

energetic and playful. I’m not

interested in copying exactly

what  I see; it’s more

aboutcapturing the feeling

and character of a

scene through the simplification

of shape. I want my paintings to

feel joyful and to help people see

the beauty in the ordinary. To

develop my world-building, I have

taken symbols from my paintings

such as a fruit bowl and a vase —

and made three-dimensional

pieces. This plays on the idea of

bringing elements of my work to

life, giving new meaning to

everyday objects and encouraging

people to appreciate them again. I

also reflect on my world-building

through costume making, creating

various costumes over the past

year that explore themes of

comedy and extravagance.
